Theo Hirschfield (b. 2000) is a contemporary ceramic artist based in San Diego, California. He studied sculpture at the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Deaf since early childhood, his work is informed by a highly physical, full-sensory process. Working primarily in clay, Hirschfield’s practice explores dualities— strength and tenderness, spontaneity and precision—through forms that appear grown rather than constructed. His process is intensely physically rigorous, yet requires extraordinary care and precision. Hirschfield’s sculptures resist fixed meaning and instead function as a presence: intimate, outlandish, and open. The works acknowledge who we are - flawed, complex, evolving, full of life - and invite us to do the same for them.

Recent solo exhibitions include You and Me, The Annex at Gallery Sonder (2025), and Carnival, CCS Gallery, Santa Barbara (2023).
